Born in Germany in 1982, Barbara Diener received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from the California College of the Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from Columbia College Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at Filter Photo Space, Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago; Alibi Fine Art, Chicago; David Weinberg Gallery, Chicago; New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Griffin Museum of Photography, Winchester, Massachusetts; Invisible Dog Gallery, Brooklyn, New York; Lillstreet Art Center, Chicago; Riverside Art Center, Chicago; Pingyao Photo Festival, China; the Arcade, Chicago; Philadelphia Photo Arts Center; Darkroom Gallery, Essex Junction, Vermont; and Project Basho, Philadelphia, among others. Diener’s photographs are part of several private and institutional collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP), Chicago, and New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe. Her publications include the books Phantom Power (2018) and The Rocket’s Red Glare (2023).
