Lot Description
Lot of European Arms and Armor Including: Gauntlet, Grappling Hook, and Flail
1.) 12" long x 5" wide. Articulated steel gauntlet featuring a thumb plate with blued accent to the cuff with a polished boxed design within the blued strip. Item is of riveted construction and shows some traces of leather that once connected to to further finger protection. The outer rim of the cuff has been rolled with pierced pattern suggesting it once mounted further decorations. Item is without a maker mark, but is consistent with gauntlets produced during the 17th Century.

2.) 8" long x 4" wide. Iron grappling hook with four spikes and showing a hand rolled and forge welded eyelet with iron ring connecting to it. Item shows no further maker marks.

3.) 35" long x 6" wide. Iron spiked flail connected to a wood handle via a length of iron chain with butted rings. The ball is constructed of wood with iron tacks and spikes inserted overall. Items of this type were frequently manufactured in the Victorian period as historical curiosities. Despite scant evidence of the flail serving in historical European combat, such pieces became popular for their novelty.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
