Lot Description
Lot of 2 Ottoman Yatagan Swords
Lot Includes:

1.) 21" watered steel blade. 27" overall with hilt. Single edge recurve blade with a straight point and single offset fullers and quill fullers to both sides. Blade also has double fullers to spine and chiseled Arabesque floral scroll inlaid with gold to ricassos of both sides. Hilt is made of ivory or bone and has a heavy winged pommel, with silver/copper mounts that are chiseled with Arabesque patterns and four coral inlays to front and backstrap of grip.

2.) 26" blade. 32.25" overall with hilt. Single edge recurve blade with straight point. Hilt appears to be made of walnut or another hardwood and has a winged pommel.

Yatagans are a type of Ottoman short saber that was popular from the mid-16th to 19th centuries among Ottoman Turks and most areas that were under Ottoman influence, such as the Balkan and Caucasus regions.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report
1.) Fair to good. Blade has mottled appearance due to thinned losses, patination, scratches, and oxidation. Grips show discoloration and hairline cracking overall. Left side of pommel is entirely separated from the rest of grip due to cracking damage, but is loosely secured in place by a rivet. Hilt mounts has some tarnish, oxidation, and residue.

2.) Poor. Blade has heavy oxidation overall. Grips show wear, scratching, and light losses.
