[CHAMBERLAIN, Joshua L.] Chamberlain's inscribed copy of Fables de La Fontaine, plus. 
Paris: Lebigre Freres, Libraires, 1834. Tree calf leather with red leather gilt title label to spine (Wear and some splitting/loss to extremities). Marble endpapers. Nouvelle Edition. (Some spotting to most pages, some rubbing to page corners.) Provenance: Signed "J. L. Chamberlain / Bowd. Coll. 1852" on half title page. Affixed label for Bernard & Mondon, New York to interior front cover .

Catalogue of the Peucinian Society of Bowdoin College. 1858. 71pp., 5 3/4 x 8 7/8 in. String-bound original wrappers (toning, dampstaining, some creasing and small rips/losses). Included are lists of officers of the general society and college society, as well as initiated members of the general society from 1806-1858. Joshua Chamberlain is listed as one of the "Corresponding Secretaries," for the year 1856, a poet for the year 1851, and as an initiated member for the year 1852.

Joshua Chamberlain (1828-1914) was a college professor from Maine who volunteered his services and became a Brevet Major General, a Medal of Honor recipient, a four-time Governor of Maine, and president of Bowdoin College. Here are offered two items closely tying Bowdoin and Chamberlain to the war both before and after.
