Single shot flintlock muzzleloading smoothbore pistol. Reconverted flint lock marked KETLAND/& Co. Left quadrant of breech with London gunmaker's commercial proof marks consisting of a raised {Crown/V} and raised {Crown/GP} in depressed ovals and top of barrel marked LONDON. Open work brass sideplate, brass buttcap, brass wrist escutcheon, replacement wooden ramrod secured by brass pipes.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report
About good. Smooth bore fair, moderately oxidized and pitted. Metal moderately oxidized with a salt and pepper patina, showing some scattered pitting, mostly around the breech and bolster area. Touchhole over large and eroded, poorly centered in the pan. Flint lock reconverted, essentially functional, but the frizzen spring screw is stripped so the frizzen spring can fall off the lock when the action is operated. A replacement screw would fix this. Stock with moderate wear, a crack through the wrist and some wood loss along the forend.
