Condition Report
In overall fine and stable condition.  Takes a wind and runs, though unsure of the accuracy of the movement.  The pendulum and weights appear to be original though one of the weights MIGHT be an early replacement.  Retains an early winding key.  Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use.  The mechanism, saddleboard and case appear to be original to one another, though the proper right side of the saddleboard has been moved just a bit so there are two sets of holes that appear to the top of the side board.  The brass fitting at the top of the pendulum and the rear panel of the mechanism are both engraved 21. Few age cracks throughout.  The front panel and one side panel on the hood appear to be original, while one of the side panels is replaced. The hood, while of the period and likely the same maker, is associated to the case.  There was previously a decorative pediment mounted to the cornice. We believe the engraved name plate to be of the period (there are wear marks suggesting so), though perhaps a replacement as it is likely that Wood replaced his name on what was probably a Peter Stretch, originally.   The chime mechanism does not currently function, though it appears as if all elements are present. The bell chime is detached and needs a screw replacement to ensure it stays in place when mounted.  One of the weights has a replaced hook.  The feet are replaced. Hinges and lock mechanism on the trunk door are replaced.
