After hearing Albright speak about the Middle East, Mrs. Yitzhak Rabin gave her a dove pin to symbolize peace, which is featured in Read My Pins. Later, during Albright’s first visit to Israel as Secretary of State, Rabin gave her a necklace with an accompanying note: “There is a saying: ‘One swallow doesn’t announce the spring’— so maybe one dove needs reinforcements to create a reality of peace in the Middle East."

Secretary Madeleine K. Albright wore a similar dove motif pin by Cécile & Jeanne at a 1997 address at the National Press Club on Middle East peace. Similar dove motif pins, such as those presented in this lot, feature prominently in the collection of Secretary Madeleine K. Albright.
