Lot Description
[RELICS]. A collection of curiosities, incl. beadwork and relics from the Estate of Carroll J. Delery III.

Collection comprised of approx. 100 items, ranging from trade beads, rings, silver crosses, excavated relics, arrowheads, cloth samples, tools, and other artifacts. Wear consistent with age and use. Highlights include:

Multiple arrowheads, few housed in plastic bags with identification furnished by Carroll J. Delery III indicating that they were found at various sites, including one example from Powhatan's fields, Charles City County, VA, and another example from Algonquin Territory, Indiana. -- French silver cross, 2 3/4 in., ca late 18th-early 19th century. Ex Ed Butkus Collection (as per consignor notes). -- Spanish rosary comprised of red coral beads and German silver cross, 9 in. overall, ca 18th century as per consignor's typed notations. Ex Ed Butkus Collection (as per consignor's notes). -- Ornate trade cross, 2 in., from an Oneida Indian site in New York (as per consignor's notes). -- Multiple trade rings, possibly all excavated based on worn condition. Highlighted by Jesuit trade ring found at Fort Michilimackinac, MI, Ex Dick Lloyd Collection (as per consignor's notes), and a Jesuit trade ring excavated at Lake Cayuga, NY. -- Group of copper kettle point arrowheads found in St. Augustine, FL (as per consignor's note on Riker mount in which artifacts are housed). -- Assorted silver trade ornaments, modern labels indicating where they were found. -- Large assortment of trade beads and necklaces, some with accompanying labels furnished by Carroll J. Delery III indicating where they were found. -- Flame stitched cloth purse with silk-lined interior, 6 x 7 1/2 in. Pattern similar to stitch pattern of the 1770s, although date of purse cannot be confirmed. -- And much more.
