Lot Description
[SLAVERY & ABOLITION]. Three clipped illustrated fugitive slave ads. Charleston: N.p., 1820.
2 3/4 x 6 in. newspaper clipping. (Toned.) Matted (not examined out of mat). Matted with additional clipping (2 3/4 x 1/2 in.) from unknown Charleston paper's masthead.
Three advertisements from enslavers offering rewards with details of the self-emancipated freedom seekers. The first identifies "two negro men, named Tinco and Sam" who "were enslaved upon "the three-masted boat Beaufort Packet." A reward of $40, or $20 each, was offered by Lucius Cuthbert. The second describes "Prince" for "a suitable reward." The last advertises "a Black Fellow named Monday." Each listing is illustrated with an engraving.

Condition Report
The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to
age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and
restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition
they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make
no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind
as to a lot's condition. Any reference to condition in a catalogue

The absence of a posted condition report on the Hindman website or
in our catalogues should not be interpreted as commentary on an

inspecting a lot or sending their agent or conservator to inspect
the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have
requested, received and understood any condition report provided
by Hindman.
