Warhol Leads the Way at Freeman’s | Hindman’s $2.2M Prints and Multiples Auction
Freeman’s | Hindman shattered expectations at its May 7 Prints and Multiples auction, achieving an impressive $2,269,721 in total sales with 94% of lots sold. The undisputed star of the day was Andy Warhol, with his celebrated Cowboys and Indians (Lot 20) commanding $838,700—the second-highest auction result ever for the portfolio. All six Warhol lots offered in the sale soared past their high estimates, underscoring the surging demand for the artist’s iconic work.
The Modern section of the sale was led by Pablo Picasso’s Jacqueline au Bandeau de Face (Grand Tête de Femme) (Lot 75), a striking Cubist linocut portraying his wife and muse, Jacqueline Roque. The work achieved $95,750, surpassing its pre-sale estimate of $70,000–90,000. Another Picasso highlight, L'Aubade, avec Joueur d'Harmonica (Lot 74), drew competitive bidding to realize $35,200 against an estimate of $15,000–20,000. Salvador Dalí’s complete portfolio Imaginations and Objects of the Future (Lot 39) also performed strongly, nearly doubling its low estimate to sell for $28,800.
These outstanding results speak to the expertise and dedication of our team and to the strong interest from collectors worldwide. The sale attracted registered bidders from 29 countries, with 24% of buyers participating in a Freeman’s | Hindman auction for the first time.
Commenting on the sale, Monica Brown, SVP and Head of the Prints and Multiples department said: “Excitingly, our top ten lots were sourced from six different cities in our regional network—a strong testament to the growth and scale of our business strategy over the past five years. We are dedicated to meeting our clients where they are to offer their exceptional property to our global network.”
