Lot Description
Webley & Son R.I.C. "Metropolitan Police" Revolver
.450 CF. 2.5" round barrel with flat top. SN: 31699. Blued finish, checkered one-piece walnut grip. Double action solid frame revolver with loading gate, un-fluted six-chambered cylinder, topstrap groove rear sight, German silver front sight blade and lanyard ring in butt. Left front of frame marked with the Webley & Son "Flying Bullet" logo over W&S, the "Manacled Hands" logo over M.P. and the serial number. The revolver has both the original Birmingham commercial proof marks, as well as later London commercial proof marks, on the cylinder and the lower right front of the frame. The left side of the barrel has post-1904 London commercial Nitro proofs as well, suggesting the gun was re-proofed at some point after 1904, possibly for use during the Great War. The rear face of the cylinder has the last three digits of the serial number 699 on its rear face, as well as the assembly number 5. The 5 is also found under the barrel where it is concealed by the ejector rod head and on the inner face of the loading gate.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report
Good. Bore about very good, mostly bright with strong rifling, some frosting and some lightly scattered pitting. Metal with some of the blued finish remaining with moderate loss due to thinning and wear, with some areas showing a pewter gray patina where the metal is fully exposed. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Grip with moderate wear, a moderate number of bumps, dings and mars and wear to the checkering.
