[1884 ELECTION]. A group of advertising cards and covers from the 1884 election, including:
approx. 30 items related to the 1884 election which featured Democratic presidential nominee Grover Cleveland versus Republican presidential nominee James G. Blaine. Advertising cards promote candidates from both parties alongside respective commodities such as life insurance, sewing machines, cigars, medicine, starch, and hats. A mix of sizes, ranging from 5 x 7 to 4 1/2 x 2 5/8 in., with some featuring jugate examples.
Cleveland defeated Blaine becoming the first elected Democrat in the office of President of the United States since the Civil War.
