Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. A group of photographs and prints of Native American subjects, highlighted by cabinet card of Oglala Lakota Chief Low Dog.
Portrait of Low Dog (ca 1856-1894). 3 15/16 x 5 7/8 in. cabinet card on cardstock mount (creased, loss to lower left, minor soiling); matted and framed (not examined out of frame). Pencil inscription to lower mount margin reads "Blood Knife." Low Dog was an Oglala Lakota chief who fought with Sitting Bull at the Little Bighorn.
[With:] Outdoor portrait of Cayuse Chief Julius Williams holding a rifle. 3 7/8 x 5 7/8 in. photographic image, matted and framed (not examined out of frame). Although a studio credit is not visible, this image was likely taken by Lee Moorhouse, near Pendleton, Oregon, ca 1898.
