Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. Seminole Governor John F. Brown (1842-1919), silver gelatin photograph with clipped signature. Ca 1900.
5 1/4 x 7 3/4 in. silver print on 9 3/4 x 11 1/2 in. mount (image cut at corners to fit mat, small loss bottom edge line, adhesive residue on verso). Mount with clipped signature below, "Yours Truly, John F. Brown," above the inked text "Governor Seminole Nation."
John Frippo Brown served as the last principal chief of the Seminole Nation from 1885-1901 and again from 1905-1906 before Oklahoma statehood. Prior to that time he served in the Confederate Army under Seminole chief John Jumper.
