[NEW MEXICO]. A group of 4 photographs of New Mexico, incl. the Montezuma Hotel and Hot Springs in Las Vegas and the Palace of the Governors and Senate Chamber in Santa Fe.
View of Montezuma Hotel and Hot Springs. Las Vegas, NM: ca 1880s. 7 1/4 x 4 1/4 in. boudoir photograph on cardstock mount (image somewhat toned, with some discoloration to upper left, mount with some staining and wear to edges and corners). Verso with various pencil inscriptions including one reading, "Hot Springs Hotel, Las Vegas, New Mexico." View of the complex shows the Montezuma Hotel, stone bathhouse, two-story Stone Hotel, heating plant with smokestack, and bridges passing over Gallinas Creek.
The Las Vegas Optic (December 6, 1879) reported that Jesse James was a guest of the Hot Springs hotel in July, 1879. Henry Hoyt, A Frontier Doctor (Lakeside Press, 1979), pp. 183-187 claims that Billy the Kid played monte with Jesse James there that July.
