ROGERS, photographer. Shoulder-length portrait of a young "Pawnee Bill" wearing a wide-brimmed hat. Wichita, KS: ca 1880s. 3 7/8 x 5 1/4 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (rich tonality to image; light edge wear to mount). Mount recto with photographer's imprint and ink identification.
[With:] SWORDS BRO'S, photographers. Studio portrait of Pawnee Bill pictured with his wife, May Lillie (1869-1936). York, PA: ca 1890s. 3 3/4 x 5 1/2 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (toning to print and mount; edge and corner wear to mount, including creased corners). Here, the couple is pictured together in costume, posed with a single shot percussion rifle and a shotgun. Their names are written in the negative and the photographers' imprint is on mount recto. May Lillie was an alumna of Smith College who later performed as a horseback rider and sharpshooter alongside her husband. The Pawnee Bill Wild West toured for several seasons before merging with Buffalo Bill's Wild West in 1909.
