[WILD WEST SHOWS]. CRAWFORD, John. W. "Captain Jack" (1847-1917). A group of 3 scarce cabinet cards of Captain Jack Crawford and family, comprising: 

ORMSBY, photographer. Profile portrait of Captain Jack Crawford. Oakland, CA, ca 1880s. 4 x 6 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (very fine condition). Purple ink inscription in lower margin of mount, "Capt. Jack Crawford / with kindest regards / Your friend Eva." Studio imprint on verso. -- BASS, photographer. Studio portrait of Captain Jack Crawford and his family taken while he was post trader at Fort Craig, NM. Socorro, NM, 1882. 4 1/8 x 5 1/2 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (some toning, some fading to print; light corner wear to mount). Lower margin with purple ink inscriptions in same hand, incl. "Capt. Jack & his family / with kind regards / from E.L.C.," and list of subjects featured in photo, incl. "Papa, Mama, Eva, Harry, and Baby May." Studio imprint on recto. -- LAUGHLIN, J.R., photographer. Studio portrait of Maria Crawford. A rare trio of views documenting Captain Jack Crawford and his family, likely inscribed by his daughter Eva. 

Jack Crawford served with Merritt and Crook, and Chief of Scouts for the Black Hills Rangers. Known as the "Poet Scout," he authored over 100 short stories and was a performer in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show.
