A Pair of Chinese Yixing Zisha Pottery Figures of Fu Lions
LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
晚清/民國 宜興紫砂佛獅塑像一對 連木座
the male and female each distinctly modeled reflecting individual anatomy and size, each depicted relaxed on hindquarters in an active crouch, with long muscular necks casting open-mouth gazes backward. The pale bodies accented with deeper tone at the eyebrows, manes, and tails, further puncutated with white enameled beads, and all raised on reticulated hardwoods stands suggesting rockery. 
Height 9 1/2 in., 24.1 cm.

Margaret Woodbury Strong (1897-1969), accessioned by the Strong in 1975.
