A Japanese Export Hardwood Chest
EARLY 20TH CENTURY
the rectangular top panel carved to show a sinuous dragon, set in a thick frame decorated with leaf motif, above four s-shaped walls each carved in relief depicting butterflies, trees and floral blossoms, and initials 'MWS', all supported on bracketed feet.
Height 22 x width 65 3/4 x depth 21 in., 55.9 x 167 x 5.3 cm.
