8vo (202 x 119 mm). (Some browning, a few small spots.) 20th-century quarter calf gilt, brown morocco lettering-piece gilt (some rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Jacob Harsen Purdy (1844-1917), American book collector, (bookplate); Henry Raup Wagner (1862-1957), American bibliographer, historian, and collector, gifted to; Yale University Library (bookplate 1910, with duplicate note). 

FIRST EDITION, prepared for the promotion of Oglethorpe's Georgia colony, and including: "An Essay on Plantations," by Sir Francis Bacon; "Some Passages taken out of the History of Florence, &c."; "A Treatise," by John DeWitt; "The Benefit of Plantations or Colonies," William Penn; and "A Discourse Concerning Plantations," Sir Josiah Child.  RARE: According to online records, no copy of this tract has appeared at auction since 1966.  De Renne I, pp. 35-36; ESTC T47433; Sabin 78992.
