FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST BOOK, published on 8 November 1900. After Harper and Brothers declined to print Sister Carrie, Dreiser approached Doubleday, Page, and Co., who had recently published Frank Norris's McTeague to some controversy (see lot 213).
