FIRST EDITION WITH LE CARRÉ'S SIGNATURE on a booklabel laid in. Le Carré's third novel won the Crime Writers' Association 1963 Gold Dagger award for "Best Crime Novel," and was the basis for the film directed by Martin Ritt released in 1965, starring Richard Burton, Claire Bloom, and Oskar Werner.
