Lot Description
BECKETT, Samuel (1906-1989). The Lost Ones. London: Calder & Boyars, 1971.

8vo. Original calf-backed buckram, gilt-lettered (spine slightly browned); original buckram slipcase.

FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, LIMITED ISSUE, number 91 of 100 copies SIGNED BY BECKETT and printed in advance of the first trade edition.  Beckett's English translation of his Le Dépeupleur, published in French in 1970. Written during a period when Beckett was implementing Mies van der Rohe and Adolf Loos' anti-ornamental architectural theories to his prose, The Lost Ones employs no traditional plot, and is set in "abode [i.e. flattened cylinder] where lost bodies roam each searching for its lost one." Not in Federman & Fletcher.
