FIRST EDITION OF CAIN'S FIRST NOVEL, one of the most important crime novels of the 20th century, adapted for film twice: in 1946 starring Lana Turner and John Garfield, and in 1976, with a David Mamet screenplay featuring Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange.
