Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of Confederate buttons and Union hat insignia framed with engraving, comprising:

1858 pattern Federal eagle hat insignia, with 2 loops to reverse. Approx. 1 7/8 in. x 2 5/8 in. die-struck brass (some darkening and light oxidation).

[With:] Confederate eagle, head facing right, with shield reading "CS" on a lined field with an arc of 11 stars. 22mm convex two-piece brass button (heavy tarnish, possibly chemically applied). No backmark. Device similar to Tice CS225A/Albert CS3, a Confederate general staff button of French manufacture. This example is almost certainly a post-war button. -- "Mississippi" with eagle, shield with 5 vertical lines, and arc of 13 stars on a lined field. Waterbury, CT: Waterbury Button Company, n.d. 23 mm two-piece brass button (tarnish). Faintly stamped backmark, "Waterbury Co." Not in Tice, similar to Albert MP12 and MP13. Likely an Indian War-era/post-war example. -- Together, 2 buttons.

[Also with:] after DARLEY, F.O.C., artist. H.B. HALL, engraver. Gen'l. Lyons Charge at the Battle of Wilson's Clerk. Engraving, n.d., sight 6 3/8 x 4 1/2), on wove paper, all items framed together.
