Lot Description
[SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY]. A. Heyse patent model for a "Knob-Latch" with original tags. [Terre Haute, IN], 1873.
9 in. wd. x 5 3/4 in. dp. x 10 in. ht. (overall) model comprised of a thick panel of wood fitted with doorknobs affixed on either side, and faceplate with latch fitted along one edge, all mounted on a wooden base (some oxidation and darker patination to metal fittings; surface wear to wood). Wood panel bears large ink inscription reading, "A. Heyse. Inventor. / Terre Haute. Ind." Original tags (soiling with some rips and loss) number this patent 141,714, provide the filing (12 April) and issuing (12 August) dates of the patent, and identify A. Heyse as the filer of the patent. Additional paper label identifies the model as "Property of 'The O. Rundle Gilbert U.S. Patent Model Collection' / Garrison-on-Hudson, New York."
