[SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY]. J.G. Newell patent model for a "Latch-Bolt Lock" with original tags. New Haven, CT, 1877.
5 x 4 1/4 x 1 1/8 in. panel of wood with doorknobs affixed to either side, and faceplate with latch and swivel locking mechanism fitted along one edge (darkening/patination to metal fittings; general wear including scratches and nicks to wood). Original tags (discoloration and heavy creasing with some separation to one tag) number this patent 191,994, bear a printed diagram and description of the latch-bolt lock, provide the filing (18 May) and issuing (12 June) dates of the patent, and identify John G. Newell and L.G. Currier as sharing ownership of the patent.
