Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Quarter plate daguerreotype portrait of an English junior officer with sword.
Daguerreotype portrait of an English junior officer, probably of light cavalry, featuring fine gold highlighting. (Diagonal wipe marks to plate, though image is quite clear, spotting to mat; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed leatherette case (significant wear and separation throughout).
The officer wears a version of the universal fatigue jacket in dark blue, appearing to have different colored facing around the collar, with blanco white buff leather waist belt and cross belt showing regimental pattern picker (plate) and chain (plate). His sword is likely the P1822 Light Cavalry, and his wheel cap on the table next to him has an eight-pointed star on the crown, significance unknown.
