Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 11 daguerreotypes of painted portraits highlighted by a pair of half plate images by Cowden of Wheeling, VA, including:

A pair of half plate daguerreotypes of painted portraits of either the same woman at two different ages, or two closely related women. (Tarnishing to edges, some spotting to plates; resealed.) Housed together in a separated side-by-side case with mother-of-pearl inlay and hand painting (fully separated into three pieces). -- Sixth plate daguerreotype of a painted portrait of a young girl and her cat. (Light clouding and some debris to image plate; resealed 1999.) Housed in a pressed paper case (nearly fully separated at spine, significant surface wear). -- And 8 others, including 3 quarter plate examples and 5 sixth plate examples, some housed in cases, others in half cases or no case. -- Together, 11 daguerreotypes of painted portraits.
