[Washington, D.C.]: Blaire & Rives, 1845. 28th Congress, 2d Session. Rep. No. 159. Ho. of Reps. Reporting on John Martin of Vermont who would go on to be a gold rusher. RARE: OCLC locates only copy at Middlebury (VT). -- WENTWORTH, John (1815-1888). Free Tea, Free Coffee, Free Harbors, and Free Territory. Remarks of Mr. John Wentworth, of Illinois. [With:] American Missionary Register. 9 issues (incomplete run). New York: United Foreign Missionary Society, J. & J. Harper, 1824. 8vo, 9 issues numbering: Vol. V, nos. 1-3, 6-7, 9-12. (Some browning or spotting.) Original printed wrappers (wear to edges with occasional short tears or chips). Articles include firsthand personal accounts of missionary experiences from across the globe, including amongst the American Indians. The 1824 issue presents extensive commentary from the "Great Osage Mission" and Rev. Mr. Pixley, who "frequently visited the Indians in their encampments, and at items resided among them for weeks and months in succession, for the purpose of acquiring knowledge of their language." Descriptions include a journey to the encampment, a bear hunt, an Indian Council, and a First Sabbath among the Indians.
