Fort Peck Assiniboine-Sioux Beaded Hide Strike-a-Light
fourth quarter 19th century
sinew-sewn and beaded using colors of red white-heart, greasy yellow, pea green, and light and dark blue; tin cone fringe and German silver beads; old collection labels on verso
overall length 11 inches; bag length 5 inches x width 3-1/4 inches
This example is from the Fort Peck Assiniboine-Sioux reserve in Montana. The beaded tabs, rectangular shape, and long tails are Sioux characteristics, while the central design and spot-stitch technique are usually seen on Assiniboine items (Hanson 1994: 90).

Condition Report
The bag is missing the right fringe. The tin cones are in good condition and show little rust or discoloration. The beaded front is dusty. Reverse side has wear. Second set of German silver beads are inside pouch.
