Lot Description
Apache Doll, with Cactus Kicker Moccasins
late 19th century

thread-sewn, the muslin doll features her hair pulled back in a hair bow; the hide dress painted with orange and yellow pigments, accenting the diamond cutouts along the sleeves and lower edge, backed with a red cloth; further embellished with three rows of tin cones; finishing the doll's appearance are the cactus kicker moccasins, coated with yellow pigment and decorated with a triangular pattern on the underneath of the toe

Another thing that makes this doll different is that she wears a muslin petticoat under a calico underdress, both of which are gathered to provide fluff. The underdress peeks out from under her buckskin dress... (Fenn 1994: 94).
