Eastern Sioux Calumet Twisted Wood Stem, with Brass Inlay
third quarter 19th century
ash stem; with one side having geometric carvings and strips of rocker engraved cut brass insets; opposite with stylized water and serpent imagery; edge of twist incised with parallel lines
length 33 inches x width 2-1/4 inches
A similar example is housed within the collections of the Brooklyn Museum and identified as Eastern Sioux (accession number 50.67.93).
