Northern Plains Pipe Tomahawk, with Horse Track Decorations
third quarter 19th century

file-branded haft embellished with 29 brass tacks and dew claw drop; hand-forged steel blade with two rocker-engraved horse tracks; hide gasket; elongated tulip-shaped bowl; remnants of inked notation on underside of haft

length 19-3/4 inches; length of blade 9-1/4 inches x width of blade 3-1/4 inches
