Georges L’Enfant was one of the most important jewelers of the 20th century. After training and apprenticing, he set up his workshop in Paris in 1899. He produced pieces for several important jewelry houses, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boivin and Mellerio dits Meller. In 1927, L’enfant bought Gustave-Roger Sandoz’s business and partnered with his son to create impressive Art Moderne pieces. He also took over the workshop of Verger Frères, best known for its Art Deco jewelry. In the 1950s L’enfant collaborated with Vacheron Constantin to produce watches for Hermès and continued his work with Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1960s and 70s, specializing in bold textured chain bracelets and necklaces. Georges’ son Jacques took over the business which later sold to Bouder in 2003.
