From the Patti Cadby Birch collection of Persian jewelry, sold by Stair Galleries in 2009. Born in New York in 1923, Patti Cadby Birch traveled extensively in the Middle East and was a major collector of Islamic and Persian art and jewelry. Her and her husband opened Circe Gallery on St. Thomas for their collection of international art and jewelry. She helped fund conservation projects in Marrakesh and was a benefactor of the Islamic Art department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2011, two galleries for art of Morocco, Spain, North Africa, and the Western Mediterranean were named for her.
