Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. The Battle of Boonville, Missouri, Fought by General Lyon on June 17, 1861. Original pencil sketch by Moses Kaufman.
11 1/4 x 5 3/8 in. pencil sketch (toning, staining and wear to margins, horizontal fold). Signed lower left by Moses Kaufman, Ripley, July 1861, and titled in lower margin with additional descriptive text, "On the Union side there were 3 killed, 10 wounded & one missing. The number of killed & wounded on the Rebel side has not been ascertained. The number of dead brought in Boonville are 50, wounded ones 50 & prisoners 80 were taken by Unionists.” A detailed sketch showing General Nathaniel Lyon at center with advancing infantry and artillery on left. Verso includes penciled signature of Moses Kaufman, the same location and date, "Ripley, July 1861," and a rendering of a cannon.
