Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Regulation US Infantry hand-painted snare drum. Attributed manufacture to Charles E. Town, Bath, ME.
16 1/2 height; 17 in. diameter painted ash snare drum with brass tack pattern (minor surface wear), with hoops and rims painted red, both drumheads intact (top head with large tear), original rope fasteners, 10 original brown leather tighteners, original gut snares with tightener. Only remnants of interior original paper manufacturer's label remain. One side features a blue panel decorated with a spread-wing American eagle with a Federal shield and a riband reading: "Reg. U.S. Infantry." Provenance: Dave Lewis, Lakewood, CO, Gray Hendershott, Little Rock, AR (consignor relates).
Research attributes the manufacture of the drum to Charles E. Town of Bath, Maine.
