Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate tintype of a Union soldier holding a rifle with fixed bayonet.
Quarter plate tintype full standing portrait of a Federal soldier posed in what appears to be a disorganized photographer's studio. (Few scratches and blemishes to plate, especially near the bottom, clarity a bit weak, possibly from movement; unsealed.) Housed in a full pressed paper case (surface wear, separation to spine, one closure clasp missing). The soldier wears a greatcoat cinched by a leather belt with cap pouch. His forage cap bears the infantry horn insignia, and he holds a rifle with fixed bayonet upward by the barrel with both hands. Behind him is some kind of cloth wadded up on the ground, and a chair with a box on it. It also appears that there is a backdrop next to him, rather than behind him.
Property from the Civil War and Militaria Collection of George Sanders of Albuquerque, New Mexico
