An autograph album, ca 1860s-1870s, assembling more than 140 signatures and inscriptions by President Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and other prominent Civil War and Reconstruction-era political and military figures.
8vo (200 x 135mm). (Scattered spotting, light soil, toning). Embossed black leather-covered boards with gilt lettering "Autographs" on front and back covers and spine (corners rubbed, scuffing, separation at the spine).
Laid in on lined paper at front is Douglass inscription "Right is of no nation / Truth is of no color / Liberty is the birthright / of All and all men / are Brothers - " followed by signature ("Fredk Douglass"). First set of signatures in the album following the Douglass note are President Abraham Lincoln ("A. Lincoln") and his Vice President Hannibal Hamlin ("H. Hamlin"). Also includes: US Senator James Rood Doolittle, Senator Waitman T. Willey, Senator Peter G. Van Winkle, Senator Lyman Trumbull, Senator Edwin D. Morgan, Senator John P. Hale, Senator George Goldthwaite, Senator James K. Kelly, Senator John W. Johnston, Senator John Sherman, Senator John S. Hager, Senator John P. Stockton, Representative George H.
