CUSTER, George A. (1839-1876). A group of 3 items, incl. photographs and cut signature ("G.A. Custer").
5 x 1 in. fragment clipped from partially printed document bearing Custer's signature below, "The A.C.S. will issue on the above return" (toning, few fold lines, minimal spotting).
[With:] [BRADY, Mathew (1822-1896), photographer]. 2 1/8 x 3 1/4 in. (visible) CDV on trimmed cardstock mount of George A. Custer after the original by Mathew Brady, originally taken 15 February 1864. Reverse of image partially taped to mat and housed in period gold frame, 5 x 6 in. (mounting traces on verso of the image, obscuring backmark, if any). -- [BRADY, Mathew (1822-1896), photographer]. 4 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. copy print of George A. Custer after Brady's image, originally taken 23 May 1865. Housed in period gold frame, 6 1/2 x 9 1/4 in. (some fading to print, unexamined outside frame). This example was likely printed ca late 19th century. Previous owner relates that a family member purchased this image as a souvenir from a visit to the Custer Trail Ranch in South Dakota in the 1880s or 1890s.
