Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. [LENNY & SAWYERS, photographers, attributed]. An exceptional group of 30 silver gelatin photographs of Kiowa. Ca 1890s. 

26 unmounted boudoir-sized silver gelatin silver photographs, approx. 6 x 7 3/4 in., or smaller, with many subjects identified in the negatives. Although uncredited, modern penciled notations to verso and accompanying labels indicate that many of the photographs were taken by Lenny & Sawyers. Studio portraits of the following subjects are included: Big Tree (2). -- Cat. -- Lone Wolf (3). -- Wild Horse. -- Several women and children including portraits of "Laura Dunmore," Big Tree's daughters Alma and Leena (2), "Cora Coruth," and "Lizzy Woodward, Oliver and niece." -- A fine portrait of a young mounted "warrior." -- 2 camp scenes. -- A family of four.

Purcell, IT: Lenny & Sawyers. 4 1/2 x 7 1/4 in. boudoir photograph on cardstock mount. -- Uncredited 6 1/2 x 5 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount with modern notation to verso identifying the subjects as Kiowa Indians at Fort Sill, including Komalty and Big Tree. -- 2 real photo postcards, the first showing Wanada Parker, daughter of Quanah Parker, Chief of the Comanches. Edward Bates, 1904. Second, outdoor view of "Kiowa Indian" (ink notation to print). 

Together, 30 photographs. Condition generally good to very good, with fading and toning to some prints as well as corner and edge wear. Several include Forrest Fenn's stamp on verso.
