Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Sixth plate ruby ambrotype featuring a first lieutenant of infantry with his wife.
Sixth plate portrait of an officer and his wife or intended bride. (Tarnishing to edges; unsealed.) Housed in a full Union case (upper hinge detached, velvet pad loose, notable hole to front cover). This congenial young urban couple shows an intrepid display of affection in the well-to-do young lady's hand resting on the shoulder of her soldier. He wears the shoulder straps of a fledgling first lieutenant of infantry but no further visible distinguishing features.
19th-20th Century Historic Photography Collection of Dr. Joseph T. Pollock
