Lot Description
[BOOTH, John Wilkes (1838-1865)]. Boston Museum...J. Wilkes Booth Who Will Appear...in Shakspere's Tragedy of Othello! Boston: F.A. Searle, 1864.
5 3/4 x 14 3/4 in. letterpress broadside (creasing, some adhesive residue to verso).
John Wilkes Booth was a renowned Shakespearean actor, himself the son of Shakespearean actor Junius Brutus Booth, before his most notorious act. His acting career began in 1855 and he toured widely garnering renown for his theatrical abilities and handsome good looks. Here, the broadside advertised a performance of Othello with Booth in the lead role. He appears to have had a short residency at the Boston Museum with other broadsides extant of other plays performed including Romeo & Juliet the next night on 3 May and Macbeth on 20 May.
