[CIVIL WAR]. BOELL, W., lithographer. B.S. BROWN, publisher. Volunteer Refreshment Saloon, Supported Gratuitously by the Citizens of Philadelphia.
Color lithograph, 1861, image 21 3/8 x 15 1/4 in. (visible 23 1/2 x 19 in. sheet), on wove paper, toning, loss to upper edge, framed to 26 5/8 x 22 5/8 in., not examined out of frame.
An artist's rendition of the large refreshment saloon for volunteers advertising "hot Coffee and Refreshments Free for the Union Volunteers". Hundreds of troop, many disembarking form the Philadelphia & Baltimore Railroad, take advantage of the refreshments. With three interior vignettes below. The lower border features a portrait of General Winfield Scott, to whom the print is dedicated, and facsimile signatures of several of the supporters.
