An engraving commemorating the new steam-powered bus, the Enterprise built by Walter Hancock for the London and Paddington Steam Carriage Company.
Walter Hancock (1799-1852) was a pioneer of steam engines who introduced several steam-powered road vehicles between 1824 and 1836 in Stratford. While not the first, his vehicles were the most commercially successful. The Enterprise debuted on 22 April 1833 and ran between London Wall and Paddington via Islington and was the first regular steam carriage service and featured many innovative features.
