Lot Description
[AFRICA]. A group of 15 press photographs relating to leaders, events, and conflict in Africa. Ca 1930s-1960s. 

6 x 8 in., or slightly larger, silver gelatin press photographs. Most with clipped labels or newspaper captions and ink stamps to verso. 

Captions/titles include: The American Negro Moslem Brotherhood marching in response to the debate in the United Nations over the Congo, 17 February 1961. -- Belgian white settlers leaving a ferry in the French Congo after fleeing Leopoldville, capital of the New Congo Republic, 10 July 1960. -- Congolese UN Delegation representing moderate President Joseph Kasavubu, 15 September 1960. -- President Moise Tshombe of Katanga, Congo, speaking at a press conference, 10 April 1961. -- A mob gathered in front of the U.N. Headquarters in Elisabethville, Katanga, Congo, in response to the urest caused by a fiery speech delivered by President Tschombe.
