New York native Isador Sy Seidman was a photographer and a collector that accumulated a vast archive of vintage photographs, political memorabilia, and Americana during his lifetime. His career of taking and collecting photographs began when he bought his first camera at the age of 16. He photographed a number of famous figures, including athletes such as Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson when they played in New York in the 1920s.

The photographs that Seidman produced and collected were featured in a number of high profile publications, including American Heritage, Time, The Saturday Evening Post, The New York Times, and The Daily News—. A large portion of his collection of antique cameras is held at the Smithsonian Institution.
