[SLAVERY & ABOLITION]. Will of Charles Williams promising manumission of enslaved man Moses. Bourbon County, KY, 29 January 1812. 

1 page, folio, 7 3/4 x 12 3/4 in., old folds, some offsetting.

The manuscript will of Charles Williams, signed by his mark alongside the signatures of witnesses. Notably, he includes: "Also it is my Will and desire that my Negro man Moses shall be a freeman at my Death."

Charles Williams (1745-1812), with children Jane, John Pope, and Sanford (all listed in this will by name), is listed in the 1810 census as enslaving 17 individuals. The fate of the other 16 individuals is not accounted for in this document.
