Fort Berthold Quilled Hide Shirt
fourth quarter 19th century


thread-sewn; with plaited quillwork on hide strips in colors of orange, purple, red, teal, and yellow; fringed bib having floral designs; long fringe hangs from sleeves and chest; interior with remnants of red pigment; inked collection number  

length 27 inches x chest 45 inches

Included is a copy of a handwritten note of provenance.

According to note, the shirt was acquired by Judge Saunders, ca 1870s and descended through family; Ex Paul Dyke; Ex James Economos; Ex Paul Rigg
